Other Reasons for Being Fit other than Being Fit

What other reasons are there for becoming fit? This is a question that can split the difference for some people who do not find fitness for fitness’ sake a good argument. Although it might seem strange to those who find an efficiently functional body to be important, there are actually those who find no appeal in running for hours at a time just to prove that they can. They would much rather munch on steak, pasta and other culinary delights as opposed to such a thing that they would perceive to be so shallow.

So in order to break such a thought barrier, it is crucial to bring up other things that you can get out of being fit other than just being fit. But just to clear things up though, fit here does not necessarily equate to thin.

Fit means a body that has achieved a decent level of performance that does not neglect the functions to which it is intended. So those suffering from eating disorders or taking supplements as a short cut are not fit by any respectable meaning of the word. They are simply thin.

Health

As probably the most obvious benefit you can get out of trying to be fit, health is what usually comes out of people’s lips as the answer when asked for their reasons of becoming fit. And of course, this is true since a healthy, functional body requires a certain level of fitness in order to match the bill. Muscles get toned and so are able to hold the body better for more mobility.

The immune system is well practiced and so is better prepared to defend the body against invaders. Hormones are well regulated and so lessen the chances for deficiencies. And fat is reduced, avoiding conditions that are caused by being overweight or having unhealthy body fat content.

Looks

As another obvious benefit of becoming fit, appearance becomes a primary motivation for a lot of fitness maniacs. Let’s face it, as mean as it might sound, there are just people in the world who judge others by their looks whether for good or ill. The fact does not make it right or fair. But it does make it a reality that all people must face.

So although you are not required to get fit just to suit other people’s standards, putting in the effort of slimming down is encouraged if for nothing else than to save yourself the trouble of going through the results of the alternative.

Qualifications

You might think that the idea is ludicrous, but there are some things that you will be unqualified for if you are overweight or unhealthy in other ways. Amusement park rides for example, have a weight limit for some of their rides. This is understandable on account of safety reasons.

But other than this, there are also establishments that will not allow you to even step through the door on account of your size. This is more out of discrimination really, but what can you do? Also, if you are overweight or unfit, some jobs will not be afforded to you, especially if they require certain proficiency towards physical endeavors. So if a job requires you to run and you cannot run, then you can hardly call this unfair.

Emergency

Nobody ever thinks that they will be put in a situation where they will have to make sudden movement without due cause. This includes those who were in the proximity of explosions out of nowhere, bystanders that got caught in vehicular accidents, and those who were put in a dangerous situation without having enough time to even think.

As unlikely as they might be, there have been thousands of instances where they happened, and all of the victims thought the same thing beforehand. It simply cannot be denied that being fit gives you more of a chance to survive such things than otherwise. By then, you are not running just because you want to prove you can. You will be running for your life.
